Division One:

Hakin United 5

Johnston 1

TWO goals inside the opening the three minutes ensured Hakin United suffered no hangover from Saturday’s Senior Cup defeat as they brushed aside Johnston at The Obs last night.

The home side went on to put five past the Tigers, with striker Adam Davies grabbing a hat trick after Ashley Bevan had opened the scoring. Mark Jones had the fifth while Joe John scored a consolation for the visitors.

Bevan headed home from the home side’s first attack, and moments later, away keeper Joel Codd’s mishit clearance fell into the path of Davies, who punished him fully with a neat finish.

And The Vikings all but sealed the points before the break when their two scorers combined – Bevan playing in Davies for his second.

The latter completed his treble after half time with a close range strike – before John struck for Johnston when he lobbed keeper James Manson following a defensive mix up in the Hakin area.

But Mark Jones rounded things off for Gary Dawes’ men when he made no mistake from six yards – leaving the champions five points off leaders Goodwick after their win at Merlins Bridge, but with two games in hand.

Both sides now have games Thursday, Saturday, and Tuesday, before a potentially pivotal clash between the pair at Phoenix Park next Thursday night
