THE Kilgetty Cougars were crowned Pembrokeshire Under 19s T20 champions after winning both their semi final and final at Hook this month.

In the last four match, they made 108 all out against Haverfordwest Blue Lightning with Dafydd Bevan making 47 in 21 balls - including five sixes in an over off Warren Evans.

The Cougars then restricted the Blue Lightning to 79 for 9.

In the second semi final, Cleddau Crusaders made 150 for 5 against the Neyland Blackcaps, with Noah Davies hitting 47, and the Blackcaps could only muster 75 for 8 in their reply as Toby Asson took five wickets.

In the final, Kilgetty won the toss and elected to bowl - and after a bright start with the bat the Cleddau Crusaders lost regular wickets before finishing 121 for 9 in their 20 overs.

The Cougars made a good start in their run chase, reaching 50 before Dafydd Bevan was bowled by Phillip Llewellyn.

Two wickets in the following over for Noah Davies then swung the momentum in Cleddau's favour but Kurtis Marsh remained undeterred, retiring after reaching 50 with his side needing just seven to win.

Despite Davies ending with 3 for 16, Kilgetty knocked off the winning runs with four balls to spare and six wickets in hand to be crowned champions.

Man of the match adjudicator Simon Williams gave the award to Kilgetty skipper Kurtis Marsh - who also collected the inaugural Gerald Thomas Memorial Cup.

Simon thanked Hook Cricket Club for putting on a great show, and in particular Alastair Platten for making the day happen, and also the family of Gerald Thomas for sponsoring the trophies.

This concluded the second season of Pembrokeshire Under 19s T20 cricket - with organisers Simon Williams and Alastair Platten asking any sides interested in taking part in 2017 to come forward. The aim of the competition is to keep youngsters involved in cricket in a fun and friendly environment.
