WRU Youth Playoffs:
Neyland Youth 27
Lampeter Youth 10

SCARLETS West (Pembrokeshire) Youth League champions Neyland are through to the third round of WRU playoffs after a 27-10 win over Lampeter Youth at the neutral venue of Loughor RFC on Saturday.

After being crowned league winners, the Young All Blacks won their first playoff game 32-12 against Llandelio in Laugharne on April 22, and backed that win up with another convincing display on Saturday.

Frustratingly for Neyland, kick off was delayed as their opposition arrived late to their bus breaking down, and a tight opening 40 minutes saw the sides go in 10-10 at the break.

But Steve Evans' side scored 17 unanswered points in the second half to seal the win.

Tries came from No 8 Scott Buirds (2), centre Alex Codd, and replacement prop Callum Jocelyn.

Outside half Harry Williams added two conversions and a penalty.

"The long wait didn't help and I wouldn't say we were completely at our best - but it was still a good performance," said coach Evans, who has been assisted this season by Graham Richards and Jeff Clout.

"We must have had about 80% possession but to their credit they defended very well.

"But we finished strongly and deserved the win."

The Young All Blacks will play their next playoff game this Saturday, and are awaiting conformation of the opposition and venue.

And Evans added his side were keen to continue their momentum from a fantastic season.

"It was great to win the league and end the dominance of Crymych - because they've been the benchmark at this level for a long time.

"We managed to beat them at their place just before Christmas, and after that win I knew we could go on to be champions."

Neyland are also through to the Pembrokeshire Youth Cup final to face Narberth, with a date for that game provisionally set for next Wednesday, May 10.
