THE Really Muddy Weekend truly lived up to its billing at Celtic Camping.

After a fine week of weather in the build up, the heavens opened on the morning of the event, meaning the hundreds of participants had to endure the hardest conditions to date.

This year, organisers Man-up UK launched the Dirty Little Rascals race, a 3K run around Celtic Camping, and the farms of Caerhys and Trecenny.
And the youngsters, aged 5-14, embraced the race, with 81 of them turning up and clearly enjoying themselves.

Next it was the original five mile race, with 188 people running, walking and falling their way around the course.

The obstacles were altered from previous years to bring some originality to the course, and there was at least a chance for those involved to briefly clean off the mud when they dipped into the pond at Caerhys Farm.

Stephen Lovatt, a young soldier from the 14th Signals in Brawdy, was first to cross the line whilst the local twins Ollie and Ed Davies eere second and third.

The father and son team of Nathan and Jacob Miles were fourth and fifth.

But for the vast majority, the goal was to get around with a bit of jesting in-between, as many chose to tackle the course in fancy dress or in large groups with friends.

Finally, came a new addition to The Really Muddy Weekend, with a 10 mile race being added for the bold and brave.

Only eight people took on the challenge, with the winner Jonathan Phillips also being inside the top 10 when including the five mile runners!

Everyone who finished either the three races was given a free Man-up Uk t-shirt, and able to enjoy a well earned stint in a hot tub afterwards.

Man-up UK organisers Fintan Godkin and Carwyn Richards were also on hand throughout the day, and Fintan said: "I just want to say from all at Man-up a massive thank you to those took part - the adults and especially the dirty little rascals on their first outing.

"This was the biggest mud run yet, and I'm sure everyone wants to thank the marshals that stood out there in the conditions.

"The final word goes to the land owners Ian of Celtic Camping, Gerald of Caerhys and Graham of Trecenny."
