Previews for WRU National League games involving Pembrokeshire sides for Saturday, November 11th (2.30pm unless stated):

Championship:

Newbridge v Narberth (1.30pm)

It was another great win for The Otters on Saturday, scoring five tries en route to a bonus point win at Tata Steel.

And the fact the points came from five different try scorers shows the current all round strength of Sean Gale's men - while the accurate boot of Ianto Griffiths, who switches from full back to No 10 tomorrow, has proved crucial thus far in turning tight contests into narrow wins.

And despite being on the road again tomorrow, Narberth will fancy their chances of further cementing second spot in the table tomorrow against a Newbridge team already beaten six times in their 10 league games so far.

The Caerphilly side did edge past bottom club Glynneath 17-13 on the weekend, but The Otters shouldn't fear their long trip east.

Narberth: Joe Hutchings, Liam Hutchings, Jack Parkinson, Paul Davies, Kieran Jones, Ianto Griffiths, Lewys Gibby, Rhys Davies, Dan Smith, Craig Thomas, Ryan Banner, Alex Jenkins (capt), Dewi Williams, Tom Powell, Rich Rees.

Replacements: Bradley Davies, Rhodri Owens, Steffan Phillips, Rhys Lane, Jonathan Rogers.

Division One West:

Crymych v Tenby United

It’s a fixture that Crymych have dominated in recent years, and they will be desperate to continue that pattern tomorrow.

After beating Penclawdd, The Preseli Men came back down to earth on Saturday with a heavy defeat at Gowerton, and remain in the bottom two.

But The Seasiders will be equally anxious, as they lie six points above the drop zone without an away win to their name in this campaign.

They were much improved on Saturday as they pushed leaders Dunvant all the way before losing 24-31, but coach Chris James will know if his side don’t start turning good displays into wins, they will be dragged into a dogfight.

Furthermore, the last times these sides met at this venue in Division One, back in May 2016, The Preseli Men put 80 points on The Seasiders.

It's a memory the visitors will want to banish.

Division Two West:

Amman United v Fishguard

Fishguard’s two league wins thus far have come against the bottom two, and it’s vital they now beat the team third from bottom tomorrow.

After the frustration of last weekend’s postponed clash, The Seagulls go to an Amman side one place and seven points below them in the table.

Again Huw Evans and Gareth Thomas will look to the power of their pack, with the ball carrying of skipper Gavin Walsh, Luke Freebury, Chris Shousha and Mark George likely to be important, while the recent return of centre Mike Jenkins has improved their backline options.

Amman have won just once after being promoted from Division Three last season, but their sloping pitch and hostile crowd mean they are never an easy team to visit.

Fishguard must dig deep, and I suspect any sort of win will do them fine.

Fishguard: Edward Bendall, Mathew George, Thomas George, Mike Jenkins, Sam Kurtz, Alun George, Arwel Davies, Ryan McVeigh, Gavin Walsh (capt), Neil Perkins, Richard Hunter, Ryan Langman, Luke Freebury, Chris Shousha, Mark George.

Replacements: Jordan James, Simon James, Jack Owen, Andrew Williams, Mark George.

Mumbles v Whitland

The Borderers are combining style and substance at the moment, and Saturday’s 15-10 win over Pontarddulais showed they are more than capable of grinding out crucial results if needs be.

That victory came courtesy of 15 points from the boot of Nico Setaro, but even without injured top try scorer Sean Coles, they may eye a more expansive game tomorrow against a Mumbles side with three wins and three defeats in the league so far.

It is very difficult however, to predict what the home side will bring given they called off their match at Fishguard last weekend claiming they were unable to raise a side.

Regardless, if The Borderers maintain their current focus, they should notch a seventh straight league victory.

Whitland: Scott Newton, Liam Price, Jonathan Thomas, Josh Thomas, Alun Howells, Nico Setaro, Tom Parry, Aaron Mayne, Marc Jones (capt), Michael Ryan, Dai Ebsworth, Raff Williams, Danny Evans, Ryan Michael, Jack Mason.

Replacements: Jacob Dewhurst, Gethin Lewis, Jamie Lewis, Scott Candler, Adam Davies.

Pontarddulais v St Clears

I’ve said from the start I think it is the home form of St Clears that will dictate whether they stay up, and sure enough, a 32-19 win over Tumble last Saturday took Mike Jones’ side 11 points clear of the bottom two.

But Jones will not want his side to become whipping boys on the road, and they will need to dig in tomorrow against a Pontarddulais team that as mentioned, lost their 100% record at Whitland last Saturday.

The Bont did show they were prone to indiscipline that day, giving Setaro seven penalty attempts at goal – and that is something The Saints must surely look to exploit if they are to come away with a result.

Division Three West A:

Cardigan v Aberaeron

The Teifisiders showed real fight two weeks ago to fight back from 22-0 down against Milford Haven, before going down 27-26.

Winger Sion Hughes continued his good form with two tries that day, and he again will be key tomorrow if the home side are to notch a first league win since September 23rd.

But it won’t be easy against an Aberaeron side which will again look to their powerful pack.

The visitors hammered Llangwm last week, and I suspect The Teifisiders will look to go wide and try and run them off their feet.

Cardigan: Llyr Jones, Sion Hughes, William James Delve, Ben Rogers, Casey Watkins, Tom Dunn, Owain Rees, Richard Jones, Luke Palmer-Davies, Ben Hughes, Dean Harries, Sion Phillips, Tom Taylor, Marcus Castle, Llyr Griffiths (capt).

Replacements: William Brice, Gruffydd Lewis, Daniel Evans, John Lumb, Tomos Jones.

Haverfordwest v Laugharne

The Blues were seconds from a huge win in Pembroke last weekend, but they have little time to lick their wounds with another difficult 80 minutes in store tomorrow.

Bruce Evans’ team have played some enterprising rugby of late, and in wingers Josh Atherton and Liam Mainwaring, possess good finishers out wide with both crossing again against The Scarlets.

But they will be tested tomorrow by a Laugharne side which boasts a number of danger men themselves.

No 8 Mikey Williams has notched an incredible 11 tries in two league matches, and No 10 Owain Thomas heads a backline that can cause mayhem if given the space.

The Cocklemen were ruthless in racking up a century of points against St Davids on Saturday, and if both sides fire tomorrow, we could be in for a cracking contest.

And if the weather stays dry, there should be some very good rugby on show to boot.

Llangwm v Pembroke

It’s been a tough few weeks for The Wasps, and it doesn’t look like it will get any easier tomorrow.

Richard Scriven’s side, who have now lost coach Stuart Barlow, went to Aberaeron with a bare 15 players and were beaten 80-0, and tomorrow face a Pembroke team with eight wins from nine in all competitions so far.

A last ditch try from Toby Smith gave The Scarlets that crucial 22-18 win over Haverfordwest last week, and Geraint Lewis will not want any let up from his side at Pill Parks.

Llangwm will have to handle the Pembroke pack power of the likes of Sam Smith, Dom Colman, and Jonathan Palmer, because if they get on the front pack and the away backline gets space, it could be another long afternoon.

St Davids v Neyland

A month ago this one would have looked tight on paper, but since then these sides have enjoyed contrasting fortunes.

The progress of The Saints has been checked by huge away losses at Pembroke (95-5) and Laugharne (104-5), plus a 43-0 home defeat against Haverfordwest.

They struggled to raise a side for the Laugharne game last Saturday, and will need players back, especially in-form full back Rhys Morgan and back row player Daffydd Williams, to pose a threat tomorrow.

The All Blacks meanwhile ran riot in the second half on Saturday to see off Tregaron 52-17, and were it not for a missed late penalty against The Quins the week before, would be heading to St Davids on the back of three straight victories.

The experience of Mark Riley at scrum half and player coach Steve Martin was pivotal last week, but it is their youngsters in particular who are flourishing, with No 8 Ben Williams one of many to show real promise whilst winger Dan Goodridge is proving a clinical finisher.

Martin will want more of the same tomorrow and if his side produces – then The Saints will have to really step up from recent weeks.

Tregaron v Milford Haven

The Mariners were pushed hard by Pembroke Dock Harlequins last week, but again displayed their resolve and ability to score tries with a 38-22 win.

Switching to the second row has done Ben Groves no harm, and his strong running saw him grab a hat trick of tries last week – and Alan McClelland’s men currently look a solid all round unit.

No trip to Tregaron is ever easy, but if Milford go at full strength, I expect they will want a bonus point against a team hammered by Neyland last week.

The Mid Wales team are capable of playing good rugby and scoring tries, but are vulnerable defensively and Milford possess the far greater pack power.

McClelland’s men are currently joint top of the table with Pembroke, and have already successfully negotiated a trek to Aberaeron. I’d expect them to do the same here.
