MILFORD Haven Karate Club students Rowland Adams and Andrew John travelled to Merthyr at the weekend for the final leg of the Welsh Karate League.

Roland knew that only a Gold would give him hope of claiming the overall Champions of Champions title, with other results also needing to go his way.

Unfortunately the overall leader came through his semi final, gaining the points he needed to secure the title.

But he faced Rowland in the final- who produced a devastating performance to beat the champion to take Gold, and overall second place in the rankings.

Andrew John’s recent performances in the league meant he went to Merthyr targeting a top three finish, and he produced a masterclass in the final of the boys under 18s to claim Gold, and also finish second overall.

Club instructor Kevin John said: “This past year I’ve seen massive improvement in these guys, the squad are listening to what I’ve been trying to introduce in sparring and training and it’s paying off.

“I’m proud of their superb efforts and I’m gutted for Roly who missed two events through injury, which stopped him taking first overall. But what a cracking first season of competing for him.”

The 2018/19 league soon starts, and the club have a massive year ahead with a host of members set to compete in Scotland and the World Championships in Malta.
