Division Three West A:

Cardigan 19-48 Pembroke

A memorable league season for Pembroke was capped on Saturday as they were confirmed champions of Division Three West A with a big win at Cardigan.

The Scarlets still have games to play at Haverfordwest (Wednesday) before hosting second placed Milford Haven on Saturday, but now cannot be caught in the title race after another ruthless display in which they notched eight tries.

But like against Aberaeron and Llangwm in their recent league games, the National Bowl finalists had to overcome a slow start as they trailed 14-0 to tries from Cardigan player-coach and No 8 Colin Davies and full back John Lumb, who converted both.

But Pembroke got back into the game with a terrific try by winger Barry Alderman-John and a close-range effort from No 8 Sam Smith, whose brother Toby at No 10 added a third try to nudge them 15-14 ahead.

Alderman-John, who caught the eye wide out with Elliott-Evans, then sped away for his second score as Luke Hartland (2) and Toby Smith added conversions to gie the visitors a 26-14 half time lead.

After the break full back Hartland scored two superb tries from near half way, with other from in-form centre Dan Colley and replacement second row Cyle Weatherall, one converted by Hartland.

The Teifisiders, who will now finish seventh, claimed a late unconverted try by replacement No 10 Iwan John, but it is the Scarlets who will now progress to Division Two West next season.

They will be presented with the silverware after playing the Mariners next Saturday at Crickmarren, and the following Wednesday (May 23rd), will take on Aberystwyth at the Pembrokeshire KO Cup final in St Davids.
