Pembroke County Cricket Club Division One previews for Saturday, May 26th (1.30pm):

Burton v Cresselly

For Burton to score 220-4 last week only to lose to Whitland by one wicket would have been soul destroying, especially for Richard Jones whose knock of 95 had seemingly put his side in pole position.

It also meant a third straight defeat, although they still lie seventh and there is no need for any panic yet.

Again their bowlers will be tested tomorrow against a Cresselly side that put away Tish with ease, Matthew Lewis (4-28) and Adam Chandler (62 not out) their key performers in a nine wicket win.

Neilson Cole's side are third, 30 points off Neyland, and know they can ill afford to fall any further back given the early form of the leaders.

The outfield may be damp with the sceduled rain today - so we may not see a repeat of last Saturday's run fest at Oatfield Park.

Kilgetty v Neyland

Neyland are flying at the moment and their Harrison Allen win over Haverfordwest last night would have further boosted their momentum.

Last Saturday, it was Henry Durrant's century that set up a 30-point win over Johnston, and Andrew Miller's slow stuff continued to wreak havoc.

Kilgetty meanwhile, were easily beaten at Haverfordwest before losing to Cresselly in midweek - but one real positive for them there was the innings of Ross Hardy, whose brilliant ton was a reminder of his threat.

Neyland have a strong and varied attack and Sean Hannon has a lot of bowlers at his disposal, so if Kilgetty are to get a result, they will want Hardy on song again.

Lawrenny v Johnston

The Lawrenny bowlers toiled in the heat last week as they let Llangwm amass 278-2, and although they also passed 200 themselves with the in-form Simon Cole making 69, wickets fell regularly as they eventually lost by 61 runs.

That result leaves them sixth, but they will eye a chance to pull away from thise below them against a Johnston team who endured a long day at Neyland.

They also lost in the Bowl to Pembroke in midweek, and while you can't fault the effort of those involved, a win currently looks a long way off.

Liam James has appeared their main hope with the bat so far, but they need to find a way of restricting the home side when bowling, or Brad McDermott-Jenkins and co could run riot.

St Ishmaels v Llangwm

Tish have won just once this season and there will be some concern as they lie eighth, four points above the bottom two.

Peter Bradshaw is looking steady as ever and twins Harry and Jack Nicholas are beginning to adapt to Divison One, but they are struggling to find any consistency as a side.

In spinner Andrew Pawlett they now have one of the best slow bowlers in the top flight and he will be critical tomorrow against a Llangwm team that is in the runs.

Their lowest score in the last three league games has been 179 and last week to of their inform players, Phil Llewellyn (116) and Matthew Kiff (83 not out) inspired the win over Lawrenny.

Kiff and Ollie Davies also did the damage with the ball, and with their momentum, the visitors will be confident of pushing on from fifth place.

Whitland v Haverfordwest

After an erratic start, Iestyn Scourfield's side showed their mettle last week with that great chase in Burton.

They are now finding form and Matthew 'Titch' Davies, whose boundary won the game last week, is providing the backbone when they bat. The return of Steffan James will only help further.

But they have a tough task tomorrow against a Town team who will be smarting from that Bowl defeat at Neyland - making the league an even greater priority for Danny Potter and co.

They are second and only 10 points adrift, and the fact Simon Holliday 'failed' last week with his lowest score of the campaign, 62, says everything about the job he's doing for his side.

Jonny White is also emerging as a class act, with four more wickets last week, while all-rounder Lee Summons has settled in well.

If both sides are on form, this could be quite the contest.
