Pembroke County Cricket Club Division One previews for Saturday, June 2nd (1.30pm):

Cresselly v Whitland

Cresselly have had two vital wins in their last two games. So have Whitland.

This clash is pivotal tomorrow. The Doves are second and trail leaders Neyland by 30 points, Whitland are fourth but just 10 points further back.

Cresselly chased down 240 at Burton last week thanks to Dan Cherry's ton and then Adam Chandler and Iwan Izzard were both in form the following day when they beat Carew in the Village Cup. When their batting line-up gets it right, they are capable of big runs at a rapid pace.

Whitland had a great win over Haverfordwest last Saturday and again Mathew 'Titch' Davies played a crucial hand in seeing them home with 36 not out. Opening bowler Ben Harvey's form also continued as he took 5-36.

Cresselly undoubtedly harbour hopes of the title can ill afford to slip up given the form Neyland are in. But likewise, if Whitland want to progress into a side that challenges for top spot, these are the kind of tests they have to come through.

Could be an intense clash here.

Haverfordwest v St Ishmaels

The Town are hardly in crisis, but a 48 hour period last week in which they went out of the Harrison Allen Bowl and lost ground to Neyland because of that result at Spring Hill will have left them very disappointed.

They are only 31 points off the pace and have ample time to recover, and the in-form Jonny White will look for early inroads tomorrow against a Tish batting line-up that had looked fragile prior to their high scoring draw with Llangwm last week.

A half century from Dan Howells led them to 221-9 as they chased 235 to win, but Phil Cockburn's side are only 16 points, and one place, clear of relegation and they need to start picking up positive results pronto.

Johnston v Kilgetty

The result for Tish may be of heightened importance because of this game - where Kilgetty will eye a chance to get out the bottom two.

Johnston continue to keep going and the likes of Liam James are giving their all - but the fact is a loss of players has left them on a hiding to nothing in the top flight.

But neither side has tasted an outright win in the league this summer - and the home team themselves will know that on paper at least, this represents their best chance so far. They were shot out for 47 at Lawrenny last week, so it goes without saying they must improve with the bat.

Kilgetty meanwhile, were 95 all out at Neyland - but a major positive for them is the form of Ross Hardy. He backed up his Harrison Allen ton with a hard hitting 45 that was only ended by a great Nick Koomen catch. -and if he gets going at the Glebelands, he may well decide the contest.

Llangwm v Burton

Both teams passed 200 last week - with differing results.

Llangwm are now fifth and don't look like they will be dragged into a dogfight, with the likes of Chris Inward, Phil Llewellyn, and Matthew Kiff (amongst others) showing the sort of form needed to compete in the top flight.

Burton are seventh and will still be wary of those below them, but Toby Hayman's classy ton against Cresselly last week was a reminder they too have plenty of potential in their first XI.

But in their last two games they have lost after posting big scores, and while it's easy to say, they must find a way of taking 10 wickets if they are to bat first tomorrow.

Neyland v Lawrenny

League leaders Neyland will start favourites here given their form so far, and they seem to have regained the intensity in the field and the cohesion missing at the start of last season.

They have shown few signs of weakness this summer, with Geraint Rees (3-5) and Henry Durrant (5-9) both stepping up with the ball against Kilgetty, and have been clinical in chasing tricky totals.

Lawrenny meanwhile, breezed past Llangwm last week, and it is now 10 wickets in three league games for Rob Williams.

For the visitors to have a chance tomorrow, they will want him on top form again, especially given Neyland have lost just four wickets in their last two league games.
