HAVERFORDWEST County was well represented in the Welsh Academy Under 18 squad that has just returned from a successful two match tour of Gibraltar.

Bluebird pair Alaric Jones and Charlie Davies were both involved as players while the club’s Academy Director Steve Batty, whose work with the youngsters has been so invaluable at Bridge Meadow in recent years, also travelled as part of the coaching staff.

Batty, who earlier in the season was appointed as a scout for the squad for players from the South-West region, assisted regular coach Mark Pike and helped oversee back to back wins over the hosts.

On Monday, centre back Jones wore the captain’s armband while Davies got on the scoresheet after coming onto the left wing in the second half, as the Welsh notched a convincing 3-0 win.

Then 48 hours later, the squad again prevailed, this time 2-0 at the Victoria Stadium, with skipper Jones and Davies both starting and again impressing.

"It was one hell of an experience travelling to 'The Rock' with Wales and coming away with excellent results in both games," said Batty.

"The amount of work that goes on behind the scenes is unbelievable to ensure coaches can focus on getting players ready for each game.

"The fact that two of the players were lads that have come from our own Academy has made it even more pleasing. And it made it nicer for me that they were there."
