Neyland's Tom Pritchard was named Best Student Sports Journalist at the recent University of South Wales Sport Recognition Awards.

The former Sir Thomas Picton pupil is one of the first cohort of Sports Journalism students at USW’s Atrium campus in Cardiff - and picked up his award at an evening hosted by BBC Wales football correspondent Rob Phillips.

The 20-year-old is best known in local sporting circles as a promising young bowler with home club Neyland, but also has an avid interest in both rugby and football, amongst other sports.

He regularly reported on USW’s Men’s Rugby First XV last season, and Sports Journalism course leader Julie Kissick said: “I’m delighted for Tom. He’s a talented writer and has proved to be a conscientious student.”

Tom himself told Telegraph Sport:”It was a huge honour to win the award, and to be voted for it by my peers made it that much more special.

“This is the first year of the new course and I’ve had some great experiences so far, from covering the University rugby side on a weekly basis, to attending press conferences for the Wales men’s and women’s teams.”
