Lorcan Williams has deservedly clinched the Amateur Jockeys of Great Britain Gents Jumps Championship on Friday, June 8.

Jump jockey Williams, who comes from Tenby, was crowned champion amateur in his absence at Stratford, after amassing 12 winners.

Williams is planning to switch to the professional ranks in the coming weeks and ride as a conditional for his boss - well renowned top trainer Paul Nicholls.

Alex Edwards attempted to make a race of it as he moved on to 11 winners after Crazy Jack took the 2m5f hunter chase leaving him needing to land the concluding point-to-point bumper on the well-backed favourite Shalltoo.

But he could only finish third behind Lily The Pink, who turned out to be Leanda Tickle’s last ever ride, leaving the way open for Williams to take the title with Zac Baker and Edwards tied for second.

Shortly after winning the title Williams announced on social media: “Very proud day to be pronounced Champion Amateur and Champion Hunter Chase rider and would just like to say thank you very much to all of the support I have had this season and hopefully it will role into the next, after turning conditional.”
