Carew rain again as league champs
5:00pm Wednesday 22nd August 2012 in Pembrokeshire sports news
Carew have been confirmed as the division one champions after their game with Neyland was rained off at the Neyland Athletic Ground on Saturday.
Needing just five points in two games to claim the title, Robbie Hicks' men didn't even have to take the field on Saturday with the game called off mid-morning. Also in division one, there were wins for St Ishmaels and Cresselly as the race to avoid relegation reaches a thrilling climax.
Going into the last day of the season, one of Lawrenny, Narberth, Saundersfoot, Cresselly or St Ishmaels will go down, although the latter two took major steps towards safety with their wins. Eighth placed Lawrenny and ninth placed Saundersfoot face each other, while bottom of the table Narberth travel to champions Carew.
There is likely to be no love lost in that fixture, after the Harrison Allen Bowl quarter final between the pair was marred by verbal and physical confrontations at the end of the match.
Whoever stays up will be joined by Llanrhian, after Ben Jones' men were promoted as division two champions on Saturday. They bowled Pembroke out for 107, before passing the total for the loss of just three wickets.
