I READ Terry Tucker’s ketter about Bishop Auckland on a Sunday night in the 1950s (HAS, June 20).
I can’t remember as far back as him, but I can remember Friday nights in the 1980s. They were great nights out.
I worked at the local clothing factory and Monday morning in the factory was all about what we did Friday night and what we were going to wear on the Friday night coming.
The Queen’s was the place to be. Harvey’s had queues of people waiting to get in. Cooper’s and Dexy’s were packed to the rafters.
Now, sadly, Friday nights in Bishop Auckland have died. We went a few weeks ago to find pubs either closed or empty with no atmosphere at all.
I still laugh at our goings-on on Fridays. I understand times change, but in my opinion not always for the better Karen Danby, St Helen’s Auckland, Bishop Auckland.
