WALES Under-20s captain Ollie Griffiths has called on his charges to show the same attitude that stunned the world champions when they take to the field in Scotland this evening (kick-off 5.55pm), writes Chris Kirwan.

The Welsh young guns got their Six Nations campaign off to a perfect start when they beat England 21-15 in Colwyn Bay last Saturday.

They will be hot favourites to make it two from two at Galashiels against a Scotland side that was brushed aside 47-6 by the French but Dragons and Newport flanker Griffiths says there is no danger of complacency.

“We are confident but know that Scotland are going to come out firing and we have to have the same focus that we took up to Parc Eirias,” said the 19-year-old from Newbridge.

“You could tell by the reaction of the boys afterwards how much it meant and how much preparation and hard work went into it. It was a massive boost to the team to get a win against double world champions.

“As a team we are confident that we can go on and win the Six Nations but in no way are we complacent.

“The other teams in the competition are going to give us massive games and we’ve got another tough challenge in Scotland.”

Griffiths, the Black and Ambers’ youngest ever captain, is typically humble about being named man of the match in the win against the English.

“It could have gone to anyone and as a pack we were outstanding,” he said. “We spoke about England’s physicality but we went above and beyond matching them and coming out on top.”

Griffiths is joined in the XV for Scotland by four Dragons teammates, wing Barney Nightingale, loosehead Luke Garrett, lock Joe Davies and number eight Harrison Keddie while prop Keagan Bale is among the replacements.
