GEORGE North has been ruled out of Wales' tour of New Zealand after suffering a hamstring injury in the first Test in Auckland, the Welsh Rugby Union has announced.

North was injured in the final move in Wales' 39-21 loss to the All Blacks on Saturday, and has now been released from Warren Gatland's squad.

"George North has been ruled out of Wales' tour of New Zealand and has been released from the squad," a statement from the WRU said.

"North suffered a hamstring injury in the first test in Auckland, ruling him out of Wales' remaining games.

"Further information will be made available in due course."

New Scarlets recruit Rhys Patchell was called up on Saturday following the injury, while Gatland has also called in Keelan Giles from the Wales Under-20s squad currently competing in the Junior World Cup in Manchester.

Giles, of the Ospreys, scored twice in the opening game of that tournament last week against Ireland and will link up immediately with the squad.

Wales are due to face two-time Super Rugby champions the Chiefs on Tuesday, with the next Test set for Saturday at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington.

Tom James and Eli Walker are on the wings against the Chiefs while other options as replacements could be moving Liam Williams to the flank from full-back or centre Scott Williams.
