NEWPORT Gwent Dragons lock Bryce Morgan has been called up by Wales for the World Rugby U20 Championship.
The 19-year-old has been named as a replacement for wing Keelan Giles, who was called up to the senior squad by Warren Gatland on Saturday, and will provide cover in the boilerhouse following Ospreys second row Adam Beard’s suspension for making contact with the eye of Ireland’s Kelvin Brown.
Morgan, who impressed for Newport in the Principality Premiership last season, was a member of the Six Nations Grand Slam winning squad and has been backed to take his chance by head coach Jason Strange.
“Bryce was unlucky not to make the initial Championship squad," said the former fly-half. "He took his opportunities well in the Six Nations as I’m sure he will over the next couple of weeks.”
Wales play their final Pool A game on Wednesday when they take on holders New Zealand in Salford.
Both teams can still qualify for the semi-finals as runners-up behind Ireland, who should beat Georgia, but also need results elsewhere to go their way.
