WALES will be looking to unleash their heavy artillery to give Scotland a Six Nations shellacking in Cardiff tomorrow afternoon.
Last week Warren Gatland’s side maintained the self belief and confidence from the World Cup to secure a stunning win in Ireland.
Less than 24 hours earlier, Scot-land – without a try in four Tests – had displayed the cutting edge of aeroplane cutlery to go down 13-6 to England at Murrayfield.
It means that, in a week when the 200th anniversary of Charles Dickens’ birth was marked, there are great expectations of Wales putting on a show in front of their Millennium Stadium admirers.
A sell-out crowd will expect to see the pace, power and trickery of George North, Jamie Roberts, Jon Davies, Leigh Halfpenny and Toby Faletau unleashed.
With clashes against a new-look England and home encounters with Italy and France to come, the Welsh public sense an opportunity.
But the Wales camp shun talk of Grand Slams, Triple Crowns and Championship wins, prefering the mantra of taking one game at a time.
And Gatland believes those expecting a massacre in Cardiff tomorrow are in for a surprise.
“We have got to make sure we are on our game and improve on last week’s performance because I think it is going to be a lot tighter than people think,” said the New Zealander.
“Scotland have perhaps lacked a little bit of an X-factor, something that we have a slight edge over them in terms of some players.
“We have got some firepower and over 80 minutes, if you’ve got big men who run hard, run straight and attack the inside shoulder, then at some stage someone is going to miss a tackle or you will get quality ball on the front foot and create a mismatch or an overlap.”
