After a week of torrential rain the clouds parted and the sun shone on yesterday's (Sunday's)11th annual Pembrokeshire car run.

The run, which raised money for the British Heart Foundation and Withybush Hospital's intensive care ward, saw a convoy of around 500 vintage vehicles leave Milford Marina on an 85 mile tour of the county.

The run was lead by a spectacular fleet of Morris Minors, a tribute to the diamond anniversary of the quirky British car.

The event was originally planned as a one off for the millennium, however such was its popularity that is has gone from strength to strength, attracting classic car owners throughout Britain to the county.

Hundreds of spectators lined the route to watch as classic cars rolled and roared through the roads of Pembrokeshire. Stopping for refreshments at Goodwick and finishing in Tenby.

Among the event's supporters this year were: theWestern Telegraph; Milford Haven Port Authority; Murco; Chevron; Pembrokeshire County Council; Dyfed Powys Police; Fishguard and Goodwick Lions; Pembrokeshire Photography; Ocky White; Alan Edwards and The Robinson and Edwards families.

"This event is the biggest of it's kind in Wales and one of the biggest in the United Kingdom," said co-organiser and founder Jeff Edwards.

"We didn't expect a 100% turnout because of the horrendous weather yesterday. But it seems they have all turned out and even the man above is on our side."

Plans have already been made for the 2009 run. It will be on Sunday September 6th 2009 and it will celebrate the golden jubilee year of the mini, with mini's from all over the UK will be leading the grand parade.

Mr Edwards expressed his appreciation to the spectators throughout the county who support the event.

"Thank you to those great people who line the route come rain or shine to wave to all the drivers and give a hearty welcome to Pembrokeshire," he said.
