Walwyns Castle School reunion Saturday June 13th was certainly a day to remember for past pupils of the school there. It saw people travel from Scotland, Kent and Milton Keynes to attend the celebrations on a glorious day in a perfect setting. It began with lunch on the lawn, followed by a re-enactment of former school life. This took place in church, with the children performing admirably. Cllr John George of St Davids opened the proceedings with his memories of school life in Walwyns Castle leaving school there at the age of 15. Jean Griffiths formerly of Hooks Farm also recalled her family’s thoughts and memories.
The church was filled to capacity for the sing-a-long of songs from bygone days with Mr Glyn Rees at the organ rounding off the formal proceedings.
Celebrations continued in the village hall and on the lawn with more modern music provided by Mrs Robert and Bobby King.
Compere for the day was Rev Dr Rhiannon Johnson (priest-in-charge).
The event was organised by churchwardens Enid Rees and Val Scurlock with the help of church members and friends. Former scholars created some wonderful displays of memorabilia to add to the existing ones.
Everyone proclaimed the day a huge success.
The displays were open again on Sunday 14th for viewing, thanks go out to everyone for their help and generosity. As a result the churchyard fund benefited by a sum in excess of £1200.
