Menna Bearne

Published on 23/06/2021

BEARNE Menna Passed peacefully away at Withybush Hospital at the beginning of April last year. She had been poorly for some time, and because she died at the beginning of the first lockdown most of her relations and friends were not able to attend her funeral. We had hoped to celebrate her life that autumn but once again a lockdown loomed. Menna would have been 80 on 2nd July this year, and this time, we hope we can celebrate her life so all her cousins and friends can say a final goodbye to her. This will be held at The Harbour Inn Solva on Friday 2nd July between 4pm and 6pm. Menna was born and brought up in Lower Solva - surrounded by numerous cousins - she went to the local schools, leaving secondary school to go to college. She taught in London for many years, making close friends there and was also near her mother's relations. Menna returned to Pembrokeshire in the mid 1980's, this time making her home in St Davids, but was still a Solva girl at heart - Chairing the Solva Boatowners for several years - she had been a valuable (voluble) and competitive cox in her time! She was also a keen member of St Davids Golf Club until her health deteriorated. In her later years, Shalom House had been a consummate help and support to her. We are still in difficult times, so please let The Harbour Inn know if you will be there on 2nd July to say 'Cheerio Menna!' Their phone number is 01437 720013.
