PLANNING permission has been granted for a couple’s low impact smallholding in Glandwr.

The application came up at the County Council’s planning committee meeting on February 24 with a recommendation for approval.

The One Planet Development for land south of Pont-y-Gafel includes the erection of a number of structures in the form of a timber frame house, glass house, goat shed, workshop, root cellar and solar kiln, together with planting areas.

It will sustain a family of two, one of whom is Jacqui Banks who spoke at the meeting.

Addressing councillors, she said: “It has been our intention for some years to own and run a small holding. After three years of looking for something suitable we learned of the One Planet Development policy and knew it was right for us as the conditions laid out generally concur with our way of life.

“Our aim is to create a low impact self-reliant small holding which will support several land-based enterprises."

Ms Banks added: “We have lived in the village of Glandwr for three years and have found employment locally. We feel well integrated and involved in the community and look forward to opening up our site both casually as a footpath and more formally with annual open days.”

Speaking during the debate, Councillor Rod Bowen said: “This is a great application and it’s nice to see the One Planet policies starting to come in.

“The applicant is engaging with the process and doing it properly.”

Councillors were unanimous in approving the application, which is subject 106 Agreement.
