ORIEL y Parc in St Davids is delighted to present Llareggub, an exhibition of drawings and watercolours depicting Dylan Thomas’ Under Milk Wood, by pop art legend Sir Peter Blake.

Peter Blake emerged as a key figure of the Pop Art movement of the late 1950s and his illustration of Dylan Thomas’s ‘play for voices’ is one of his longest ongoing projects.

A long time admirer of Thomas, Blake has always been fascinated by the radio play and remembers first hearing Under Milk Wood as a student at the Royal College of Art.

This major body of work is the culmination of a 28-year project by Blake to fully illustrate Thomas’ most enduring work, which is today recognised as Dylan Thomas’s masterpiece.

The exhibition includes three distinct groups of work: portraits of the characters, a series of watercolours illustrating the dream sequences at the beginning of the play and a group of works described as ‘topographical’, which includes scenes and locations from the play.

A range of merchandise is also available, including the regular edition of Under Milk Wood with images by Sir Peter Blake, published to mark the centenary of Thomas's birth. The edition in its first printing, consists or 2,500 unnumbered paperback copies, 30cm x 25cm, price £30.

The gallery at Oriel y Parc is a partnership between Amgeuddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority.
