THERE will be a live broadcast of Shakespeare’s Othello at Theatr Mwldan on Thursday, October 3.

Nicholas Hytner’s National Theatre production features Adrian Lester in the title role and Rory Kinnear as Iago.

It has been critically acclaimed, with The Times reviewing it as: “A breathtaking show of emotional firepower. Adrian Lester and Rory Kinnear are superb".

The praise was matched by the Daily Telegraph, which said it was: “A gripping production of a tragedy which is also an intensely painful psychological thriller.”

Othello, newly married to Desdemona who is half his age, is appointed leader of a military operation to defend Cyprus from the Turks. Iago, his ensign, passed over for promotion in favour of young Cassio, persuades Othello that Cassio and Desdemona are having an affair.

Adrian Lester, was last seen at the National in the title role of Nicholas Hytner’s production of Henry V. His screen work includes five series of the BBC’s Hustle. His theatre work also includes Red Velvet at the Tricycle Theatre (2012 Critics’ Circle Best Actor Award), Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (West End), Company (Donmar Warehouse, Olivier Award), the title role in Peter Brook’s production of Hamlet (Paris/international tour) and Rosalind in Cheek by Jowl’s As You Like It.

Rory Kinnear’s film and TV work includes Southcliffe, Black Mirror: The National Anthem, Skyfall, Quantum of Solace, Count Arthur Strong and Margaret Thatcher – The Long Walk to Finchley. His work for the National includes The Last of the Haussmans with Julie Walters and the title role in Hamlet (Evening Standard Best Actor Award), both of which were broadcast by National Theatre Live.
