SIR Ian McKellen will take to the Cardigan big screen when King Lear is broadcast live from London’s West End at Theatre Mwldan on Thursday, September 27 (7pm).

Chichester Festival Theatre’s production of William Shakespeare’s play received five-star reviews for its sell-out run, and has now been transferred to the West End for a limited season.

Jonathan Munby directs this ‘nuanced and powerful’ (The Times) contemporary retelling of Shakespeare’s tender, violent, moving and shocking play, which is rated 12A.

Considered by many to be the greatest tragedy ever written, King Lear sees two ageing fathers – one a King, one his courtier – reject the children who truly love them.

Their blindness unleashes a tornado of pitiless ambition and treachery, as family and state are plunged into a violent power struggle with bitter ends.

“Ian McKellen reigns supreme in this triumphant production,” says the Daily Telegraph, while the Independent writes: “Ian McKellen adds to the roster of his greatest achievements with this extraordinarily moving portrayal of King Lear.”

Tickets for National Theatre Live screenings are £12.50 full price (£11.50 concessions) and are available now from Theatr Mwldan’s box office on 01239 621200, on-line at www.mwldan.co.uk or via the Mwldan app.
