FOUR-times BBC Folk Award nominees, Stick In The Wheel will be performing live at Cardigan’s Theatr Mwldan on Saturday, November 17.

The five-piece folk band from East London are known for singer Nicola Kearey’s fierce, working-class delivery and their culturally and politically switched-on music.

They skilfully tell stories through song that reconnect modern audiences to the past, drawing unexpected parallels between then and now.

Their new album, Follow Me True, examines rituals and cycles, the past repeating itself and our inherent power to change ourselves and the world around us.

Expanding on the radical sound of their debut, they continue to question the notion of what folk music is, and what it means in 2018.

“SITW have grown and blossomed without sacrificing an ounce of what made them exciting in the first place,” says MOJO, while Uncut describes them as “Britain’s most exciting new folk band.”

Jim Ghedi and Toby Hay will be supporting Stick in the Wheel. Both make music so deeply entrenched in a sense of place - such as their homes in Rhayader and Moss Valley - that the landscapes of those environments run through their records like gushing rivers or rolling hill tops.

The People Tree pop up restaurant will be offering a set menu before this event, which includes three courses for £23 (or £26 with a glass of prosecco). Go to www.mwldan.co.uk/people-tree for further information.

Tickets for Stick In The Wheel on Saturday, November 17 (7.30pm) are £14 (£13) and £3 mates rates* and are available to book from Theatr Mwldan’s box office on 01239 621200, online or via the Mwldan app.
