FISHGUARD International Music Festival celebrates 50 years when it opens on Saturday, July 20, with a star-studded concert at St David's Cathedral.

Superstar baritone Bryn Terfel heads the line-up with pianist Llyr Williams, harpist Hannah Stone and the award-winning Côr Ysgol Gerdd Ceredigion.

The programme will include a number of Welsh traditional tunes, classical pieces and compositions by Welsh composers such as Alun Hoddinott.

On Sunday at 11am Capel Tabor, Dinas, will be the venue for an in conversation session with Bryn Terfel, poet Mererid Hopwood and artist Christine Kinsey with TV and radio presenter Beti George

Attractions during the following week include the popular Saints and Stones series on Monday when local historian Richard Davies leads a guided, musical tour of four of north Pembrokeshire’s many fascinating churches and chapels.

Young musicians will perform as coachgoers explore the interiors of the churches and their surroundings on the trip.

The tour will set off from Fishguard Town Hall at 10am and call at Dinas Church, Nevern Church, Eglwyswrw Church and Capel Tabor Dinas, returning to Fishguard Square at approximately 2pm.

At 2pm on Tuesday St Mary's Church, Haverfordwest, will be hosting the Fitzwilliam String Quartet with Matthew Wadsworth on theorbo in a programme of Mozart, Schubert, Goss and Haydn.

There will be more music on the theorbo, an extended lute, at the Church of the Holy Martyrs, Mathry on Tuesday at 2pm with Matthew Wadsworth on lute and theorbo; Robert Howarth on harpsichord and cellist Kate Bennett Wadsworth in a programme entitled 100 Years of Venice.

There's an opening for jazz fans on Tuesday evening at 7.30pm at Theatr Gwaun, Fishguard, with Geoff Eales offering 100 Years of Jazz Piano.

International harpist Catrin Finch is the attraction at 2pm on Wednesday with a concert at St Mary's Church, Her programme will include Albéniz, Debussy, Fauré, Parry, Piazzola and much more.

In the evening it will be the turn of the Septura Brass Septet at St Mary's Church, Haverfordwest, at 7.30pm with a programme of sacred and profane music from Bach, Brahms, Bruckner, Debussy, Prokofiev and others.
