VOLUNTEERS looking for signs of life at the new ponds at Holyland Wood, Pembroke, have stumbled across three spined sticklebacks.
Ysgol Y Preseli student and volunteer Lara Thomas said: “It’s so great to be able to see the pond coming to life.
“It’s very important to continue to create spaces like this for wildlife, and it’s really helpful to get some practical experience of ecological surveys.”
The ponds have proven very popular so far, and have even made a television appearance on S4C.
They were created as part of a wider education project run by Pembroke 21C Community Association focused on Pembroke Millponds and Holyland Wood.
Pembroke 21C Community Association holds many exciting events, including holiday activities for all the family and the Wild Club – a children’s wildlife club run from Foundry House Community Centre during term time.
The project is supported by funding from Natural Resources Wales and the Port of Milford Haven.
