A VILLAGE eyesore could soon be no more after a planning application was made to Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority for a new hotel.

The proposal is to demolish the old Roch Gate Motel and create a new complex of 40 bedrooms and a 90-seat restaurant and bar.

If given the go ahead it could create 20 much-needed jobs for the area.

Other facilities include secure storage for water-sports equipment and a drying room. The hotel concept is to offer high quality accommodation orientated towards family and couples at reasonable prices.

The site, which is just a couple of miles from the popular Newgale and Nolton beaches, has been derelict for more than six years.

Pembrokeshire Tourism member, Ian Bowie, Director of Humbergrange Ltd, is focused on the well-being and interest of Pembrokeshire.

All construction, interior design and produce will be locally sourced enabling money to be fed back into the county.

The leader of Pembrokeshire County Council, Councillor Jamie Adams, who lives in nearby Keeston is supporting the development.

He said: “I welcome the planning application; I think it is a unique opportunity to provide a level of serviced accommodation that is currently unavailable within the proximity of Newgale Beach. This will provide employment opportunities within the locality and address a site which has been an eyesore for many years."

Preseli Pembrokeshire Stephen Crabb added: “I am fully supportive of the plans to develop a new hotel on the site of the former Roch Gate Motel, which has been something of an eyesore for some time. I understand that the project has received considerable support from the local community.

“Pembrokeshire is a popular tourist destination and it is increasingly important that we have a good range of different accommodation available in our county to meet visitor needs. I welcome this type of investment in Roch which will help support this vitally important sector whilst creating more jobs for local people and more business opportunities for our suppliers.”
