A SHIP famous for her starring roles in Hornblower and Cloud Atlas arrived in Milford Haven this morning, ready to take part in this year’s Seafair Haven.

The tall ship Earl of Pembroke, which travelled overnight from Bristol, will be working with local educational trusts the Darwin Centre and the HMS Beagle Project, as well as hosting crews from ITV’s Coast and Country programme.

Built in 1945, the ship has been beautifully restored, with the owner attempting to emulate the shape of the HMS Endevour - the vessel commanded by explorer James Cook.

With 14 sets of sails - far more than the usual five or so on most ships - the Earl of Pembroke has a crew of between eight and ten, all kept in line by seasoned skipper, Captain Gerrith Borrett.

Captain Borrett and his crew will stay in Port until June 18, after which they will be sailing to Ireland.

This year around 60 traditional boats and vessels from all over the UK and across Europe are scheduled to arrive in the Haven for the week-long Seafair Haven maritime festival.

The larger vessels will port in Milford Haven Marina while the smaller vessels will be based in Lawrenny.

The event is organised by the Tall Ships (Wales) Trust with the support of the Port of Milford Haven and other local businesses.

The Tall Ships (Wales) Trust aims to provide sailing opportunities for young people and to support events that provide sail training opportunities.
