THE wet weather failed to dampen people’s spirits at Fishguard Show on Friday, August 1.

Hundreds of competitors and visitors travelled from far and wide to Fronhaul Fields for the event, which is now in its 157th year.

In her President’s Welcome, Enid George said: “I have been coming to this wonderful show for over 60 years. For many of the early years my late husband Colin and I showed British Friesian Cattle, so I am well aware of the time, effort and dedication required by all exhibitors of all species and other aspects of agriculture and horticulture required in preparing for this or any show.”

Together with the traditional cattle, sheep, pig and horse classes, there was a well-attended companion dog show and displays from Pembrokeshire Foxhounds, sheepdog and ducks and Pembrokeshire Falconry.

Visitors were treated to demonstrations of sheep shearing, threshing, horse shoeing and cookery, as well as a display of machinery through the ages, including vintage tractors.

The horticulture and craft marquees also proved popular.

Speaking after the show Mrs George said: “The show has gone ever so well. It started off terribly wet but it has turned out wonderful, with lots of people coming in.

“The competition has been really good in every class, from cattle to horticulture.”
