Over 400 people gathered at Pembrokeshire College on Friday, March 23rd to enjoy an evening of international food, friendship and entertainment.

The international evening was organised by the college's international department in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Haverfordwest.

In a fine example of cross cultural participation, international students from nine different counties planned menus representative of their home lands and prepared them with the help of ther college's catering students and lecturer Mark James.

International peace, goodwill and understanding were the main themes of the evening.

In his opening speech Principal Glyn Jones welcomed everyone to the college and explained that the evening was to celebrate diversity of culture and to give international students the opportunity to give their host families, friends and members of the public a taste of their homeland.

Stewart Thompson, vice president of the Rotary Club of Haverfordwest then explained the significant contribution the Rotarians made internationally and locally to help promote world peace, goodwill and understanding, then fellow Rotarian, Glan Philips symbolically lit the candles of the world - with each candle representing a continent.

A grand feast was then served in the atrium by international students. Dishes included sushi, curries, breads, enyama (African style beef), pelmeni and sweet rice.

Entertainment followed with traditional Welsh harp music and singing by Mrs Eryl Thomas and her two daughters, Sarah and Samantha; magic by Kafeel Ahmed, a fellow Rotarian; Chinese ballads by college student Zeren Wang.

The climax of the evening's entertainment was a short set of songs from the desert by United Arab Emirates students. So evocative were the sounds that several students and even some staff were moved to get to their feet and dance.
