A lucky dog is on the road to recovery after a plunging 150 foot down a cliff last Tuesday.

Two-year-old Tigga fell down a cliff near Solva after chasing a rabbit, and landed in the sea below.

Owner Hugh Lloyd scrambled down the cliff to try and reach Tigga, who swam to a rock.

He said: "The adrenaline just kicked in. I could see her swimming around below and I didn't want her to think she had been abandoned.

"I called her but she didn't want to move from the rock. I could see her shaking and she had a bleeding eye and leg. She was petrified."

Mr Lloyd and Tigga were at the bottom of the cliff for around an hour and a half before passing walkers heard his calls for help, and raised the alarm.

Mr Lloyd added: "It was lucky that the tide was in, otherwise Tigga would have landed on the rocks, and the outcome would have been very different."

The St Davids RNLI inshore lifeboat, was launched and located Mr Lloyd and Tigga with the help of St Davids coastguard.

Both were brought onboard the lifeboat and taken to the safety of Solva harbour.

Mr Lloyd and his wife Pat were on holiday from Hertfordshire, when Tigga's morning walk took a terrifying turn.

Tigga, a soft coated Wheaten terrier, is now recovering well after her ordeal, after being treated by a vet for her injuries.

Pat Lloyd said: "It's taken a lot out of her, but she seems to get better all the time.

"She has a black eye, stitches, cuts and bruises, but I think her long hair protected her from anything worse.

"She's a very lucky dog."
