PEMBROKESHIRE County Council's new chief executive is Ian Westley.

The Senior Staff Committee met on Wednesday to carry out interviews of shortlisted candidates.

The committee had previously heard that 25 applications had been received to replace controversial former chief executive Bryn Parry-Jones who left with a substantial pay off in October last year.

A shortlist of six candidates had been invited to interview.

Pembrokeshire County Council said: "Pembrokeshire County Council has offered Mr Ian Westley the post of Chief Executive.

"Mr Westley is currently the Authority’s Acting Head of Paid Service, a position he has held since the departure of the previous Chief Executive, Mr Bryn Parry-Jones, towards the end of last year.

"The offer was made following a three-hour Extraordinary Meeting of the Council today (Friday) when a shortlist of candidates was interviewed."

The new chief executive can expect a salary of £130,000, a figure set by the independent remuneration panel for Wales, but much lower than the package received by Mr Parry-Jones.
