THE first Trafalgar Road Summer Fete was a great success, and a true community event.

Organised by the Trafalgar Road Park Project, a group set up by local mum Nerys Butland to improve facilities at the Park, the Fete featured a bouncy castle, a coconut shy, outdoor games, arts and crafts, Pembrokeshire Wildlife Project’s exotic animals, a raffle with prizes including an iPod shuffle – donated by South Hook LNG - and lots more.

“It certainly wasn’t bad, considering it was my first attempt at a Fete!” said Nerys. “The weather was fantastic, lots of people turned up and everyone had fun. I’m really grateful to the local businesses that donated raffle prizes, and to Haverfordwest Town Council for loaning us tables and gazebos.”

After expenses, all the money raised at the Fete will go towards much-needed new play equipment for the Park.

Volunteer Evie Dansie, 22, was full of praise for Nerys and her partner, Ryan Dansie, who were the driving forces behind the family-friendly day out.

“They’ve done really well,” she said. “Hopefully this will inspire more people to do something for their community.”

Visitor Emma Smith said her children had “really enjoyed” the Fete. “I think it’s brilliant that someone from the community has put this on. It shows great community spirit.”
