BUILDINGS that played a key role in Haverfordwest’s history as a bustling port are on the market.
The Quay Street Warehouses and 26/28 Quay Street are up for sale at £599,950. The imposing multi-storey buildings, situated directly on the county town’s quayside overlooking the River Cleddau, are in Haverfordwest’s conservation area.
The warehouse complex, which has been used for storage for a number of years, is Grade II listed.
In the days when Haverfordwest was the second busiest port on the west coast after Bristol, the buildings would have been a hive of activity, packed to the gills with wares. The port had also been a principal point of departure for Ireland, and a staging post for pilgrims making their way to St Davids.
Anecdotal evidence suggests that aside from being used to store goods, the warehouses may have once functioned as a Customs House and been used as a meeting-house by the Society of Friends, or Quakers.
26/28 Quay Street, which has the option of being sold as a separate lot, formerly operated as a Snooker Hall. It also contains residential accommodation on the upper floors.
Subject to the necessary planning consents, the complex provides an opportunity for conversion to alternative uses, the most likely option being several residential units with picturesque views of the river.
Estate Agents R.K. Lucas and Son are managing the sale. For more information on the buildings visit www.rklucas.co.uk
