JUST days after his 32nd birthday, a Neyland man will travel to Swansea Crown Court to be sentenced for an unprovoked racial attack.

Anthony Trevor Rees of College Park appeared before Haverfordwest Magistrates on Tuesday, October 13 charged with racially aggravated common assault.

He pleaded guilty to the offence which took place in Milford Haven on February 15 this year.

Prosecuting, Ellie Morgan said Rees and a friend first came across the victim, Hussai Yossaff, in Circles nightclub, where he served them drinks, and then again in the kebab shop across the road.

While in the kebab shop, Rees started threatening Mr Yossaff before head-butting him in the face.

In his police statement, Mr Yossaff said Rees was like a mad man and he asked someone to call the police.

He then had to go outside to be sick.

Here Rees continued to punch him while yelling: “I will kill you like what you kill American Muslims.”

Mr Yossaff said he hated violence and had never experienced anything like it before. He is now scared to go out, loses sleep and his work is limited, the court heard.

Miss Morgan showed magistrates photographs of Mr Yossaff’s injuries, which included bruising to the left eye, cut lips, swollen cheeks, and swollen ribs.

Defending, David Williams asked for probation to prepare a report into Rees’ background before sentencing.

The presiding magistrate felt their sentencing powers were not sufficient to punish Rees and sent the case to Swansea Crown Court on Friday, October 30.

Rees was released on bail until that date.
