A NEWPORT hair stylist is hanging up her scissors after nearly four decades of running her salon.

Sue Evans closed her doors in Market Street for the final time on Saturday, just days before celebrating her 60th birthday.

She plans to continue to work as a mobile hairdresser, visiting the homes of some of her regular customers three days a week.

Sue said: “Now seems like the right time to move on. It is the end of an era. I’m looking forward to having more time, but I’ll really miss the customers.

“Some clients have been coming to me for years, and I’ve had a lot of support from them.

“They are quite happy as long as I can go to their homes. It would be very strange to just switch off and not work at all after all these years, I couldn’t imagine that.”

After training in Fishguard as an apprentice, Sue started work in a House of Curl, Haverfordwest, before returning to work in Fishguard and then moving to Newport when she married her husband Harry.

The pair plan to move from their current home above the salon to nearby Dinas to enjoy their retirement.
