THE Chairman of the County Council, Wynne Evans, hosted a reception for members of the Pembroke Yeomanry Trust.

Held in County Hall last Monday evening, the event was almost 219 years to the day when the Pembroke Yeomanry famously defeated French troops near Fishguard in what was the last invasion of Britain.

Yeomanry artefacts, including uniforms and a musket, were on display and speakers included Major Jon Ingledew, former Officer Commanding 224 Pembroke Yeomanry Squadron.

Guests were also addressed by local historian and author, Edward Perkins on farming families in the Pembroke Yeomanry, while the past Chairman of the Pembroke Yeomanry Trust, Colonel Dai Davies, introduced the speakers.

As a token of thanks from the Trust, the County Council was presented with a copy of a John Probert map showing Carregwasted Point as it was at the time of the invasion on February 24, 1797.
