A SELF-confessed alcoholic slapped the face of a Haverfordwest supermarket manager when he tried to wake after she was found asleep in the aisle.

Rebecca David, 25, of Chestnut Way, Milford Haven, admitted assaulting Tesco store boss Alexander Murray when she appeared before Haverfordwest Magistrates Court.

Prosecutor David Folland said staff became were concerned when they found David snoozing near the checkouts.

"Attempts were made to rouse her," said Mr Folland.

"She got up off the floor, swore, and with an open hand hit Mr Murray on the side of his face."

When Mr Murray told her to calm down and leave the store, David again became aggressive.

"She lunged towards him and slapped him again to the face," said Mr Folland

"To be fair to her, as she was ushered out of the door she apologised for her behaviour."

In interview, David said she had been "steaming" on the morning of the incident.

"She said she was an alcoholic and had drunk cider and vodka and had "maybe a little bit of weed" before going to Tesco," Mr Folland said.

"She said she couldn't remember slapping anyone."

Defence solicitor Michael Kelleher said David "had no idea" why the alcohol had affected her so badly that day.

"As a regular user of alcohol she didn't expect to be in such a position," he said.

"She collapsed and was asleep on the floor.

"Unfortunately, when she woke up she slapped the store manager.

"She apologised then and she apologises now for her behaviour."

Magistrates fined David £80 and ordered her to pay £40 compensation to Mr Murray. She is also liable for court costs of £105.
