A PEMBROKE-basedteacher has scooped £8,000 in the Pembrokeshire Lottery Summer Superdraw on Wednesday, June 8, with lottery number 36675.

The draw was broadcast live on 102.5 Radio Pembrokeshire but presenter Jay Curtis couldn’t get hold of Pembroke winner Helen Townsend on air.

However, she collected her winning cheque from its Milford Haven office later on that day, accompanied by her two children Ella and James.

Mrs Townsend, who is assistant head teacher at Mary Immaculate Primary School in Haverfordwest, said: “I couldn’t believe I’ve won, I never even win a raffle.”

The children had no idea their mum had won as Mrs Townsend wanted to surprise them, so, when the Pembrokeshire Lottery team explained, much excitement ensued.

What the winnings will be spent on is yet to be decided, but Ella and James have been busy creating their wish lists.

The usual weekly £2,000 prizes will continue until the £8,000 Autumn Superdraw on September 7.

Pembrokeshire Lottery Manager Abigail Owens said: “To date we have loaned out £5,301,112, interest free, to 370 businesses in Pembrokeshire and this has been funded solely by our supporters paying their £1 a week to be entered into the weekly draws.

“The Pembrokeshire Lottery is a real success story of sustainable economic regeneration. The amount awarded in prizes now stands at £2,643,000 and it seems that just about everyone we speak to knows someone who has won.”
