NEYLAND residents turned out in force on Saturday to celebrate the town’s annual carnival.

Beginning at the Rose and Willow pub at 1pm, the colourful procession travelled through the town before winding up the High Street and ending at the Athletic Club.

Mayor of Neyland, Simon Hancock, praised the high turnout and quality of floats. “For many years Neyland has been renowned for the quality of its carnival,” he said. “It’s the one time of the year when you can be sure that people come out in their droves to support it.

“There is a tremendous atmosphere. This is a sense of community at its best.”

With music blasting out from speakers, there was a strong turnout despite the poor weather.

Following the procession, winning floats were announced in the Athletic Club.

The winners are as follows: best float, Aladdin; best street, Cleddau Avenue; best pub, The Legion; best walking entry, E.T.; under 5s winner, jellyfish; under 10s, Brownies; under 15s, Neyland Rugby Club under 14s.

Following the prize giving there was a performance by Vibe School of Dance and music from The Vagrants Crew.
