The owners of a grade two listed Georgian mansion, which was formerly a Pembrokeshire County Council care home, have been given permission to convert it into an exclusive luxury hotel.

RiskHive Technical Services Ltd applied to Pembrokeshire County Council for a change of use to convert Cilwendeg Mansion, Boncath, into an exclusive use hotel with ancillary function rooms and manager's accommodation.

The hotel would include 12 rooms, many of which would be en-suite with manager's accommodation on the second floor.

The mansion is set within a designated two star historic garden which hotel guests would have access to.

Planning officer, Harriet Bowen, told the council's Planning and Rights of Way Committee that the work involved would involve minor alterations to the exterior, including the addition of a chimney and installation of some double glazing and the erection of railings and a gate around the cellar entrance.

Ms Bowen said that existing internal work had seen many original features restored and returned to original conditions.

She said the plan was supported by LDP and that the alterations were considered appropriate, having a positive impact on both the building and gardens.

She said that the proposal would have no adverse impact on the area's bat population.

Local member Cllr Rod Bowen said: "It's great to see this application in front of us today. The investment will be greatly received in the local community it will bring local jobs, support local economy."

Planners unanimously approved the application, subject to two additional conditions requested by Natural Resources Wales.
