THE torrential rain which has struck Pembrokeshire today (Wednesday) has begun to cause some problems with flooding.

Business at Castle Square have been affected as drains struggle to cope with the water and man hole covers lifted.

Drew Stiles was working at Paul Sartori's Haverfordwest charity shop where Swan Square meets Bridge Street when the rain started.

"We noticed rain was getting heavy about 1:45pm, and the drain started bubbling up."

He added they had to clear the shop floor of water which seaped under the door.

On the B4329 near the bridge leading into Crundale, flood waters swept over the road and sat in several fields adjacent to the road.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue County Commander Dai Swan said: "We had some flash flooding across the county with a degree of heavy rainfall.

"Leaves have blocked up the drains and they cannot cope with it.

"In some place the rainfall has been so heavy it has started to lift the lid of the drains."

Commander Swan joined Narberth's fire crew at McDonalds Haverfordwest, who were called as Haverfordwest and Milford's crews were busy dealing with other flooding related issues in the area.

The flooding at McDonalds cleared once the drains were unblocked of leaves, though the crew originally thought the water may have needed to be pumped into the nearby Cleddau river.
