REHEARSALS are well underway for Fishguard Musical Theatre Society's latest production; Oliver, which will be staged at Ysgol Bro Gwaun on April 12,13 and 14.

The group has gone from strength to strength since it was first set up by director Clare Malone Hallet in 2016.

It was behind the sell-out performances of Whistle Down the Wind, Magic of the Musicals and Brassed Off that, between them, raised around £10,000 for Fishguard's Theatr Gwaun.

Now boasting more than 80 members the group has outgrown its original venue and is using the bigger stage and venue of Ysgol Bro Gwaun to put on Lionel Bart's musical classic, Oliver.

Featuring a cast of 64, spanning an age from four to 74, the show features classic songs such as Food Glorious Food, I'd do Anything and the tear-jerking Where is Love?

Talented young choreographer Caitlin Howe is working on some stunning routines with the cast while seasoned musician Non Harries is helping them produce some glorious vocals, expect a guest appearance by the award-winning Goodwick Brass Band too.

"I am thrilled with how hard everyone has worked toward this our next musical," said Clare.

"Our new choreographer Caitlin has impressed me no end. It's also been great to have Non, our musical director, and very exciting to be using a band for the show.

"There is a wonderfully strong production team in place now and they are amazing.

"The group has transitioned seamlessly to our new rehearsal space at the Phoenix Centre and we look forward to the moving in to the host venue Ysgol Bro Gwaun.

The group is not for profit and run on a purely voluntary basis, with members paying a nominal £2 a session to cover venue hire and insurance costs.

It is currently looking for sponsorship to help with venue and set hire, with anyone who is able to offer help being acknowledged in the programme and through publicity.

Any profit made from Oliver will go towards the group's next production, with a percentage of it invested into community projects voted on by the members.

If you are interested in sponsoring the group in any way, please contact Clare on 07932963633 or e-mail fishguardmusicalsociety@gmail.com.

Tickets are available from https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/event/228585 or from Creswell's Cafe, Fishguard.

"This is set to be a great musical," said Clare. "We ask you continue to support us, following the success of our other shows. Oliver will amaze you."
