The cyclists of Pembrokeshire YFC’s Big Adventure set off on their charity challenge from the Pembrokeshire County Showground this morning (May 1).

They crossed the start line in front of the Pavilion and will spend four days in the saddle, cycling to the NFYFC AGM in Blackpool.

They will cycle 250 miles and will stop off at Aberystwyth, Oswestry and Liverpool before reaching their destination.

Organised by Pembrokeshire YFC County Chairman Non Thorne, the intrepid team are raising funds for Prostate Cymru, Wales Air Ambulance and Pembrokeshire YFC.

Non said: “Each year the YFC County Chairman chooses their own unique challenge or fundraiser, and this year I thought I’d push the boundaries with an endurance challenge.

“Over 5,000 young farmers will descend on Blackpool for the AGM in May, most arriving by car, bus or train. However a group of us from Pembrokeshire YFC will by putting on our Lycra, pumping up our tyres and cycling all the way.

“I’m far more comfortable in the show ring with my Hereford cattle than on a bike, but this is what YFC is about: pushing yourself to try something new in a fun and friendly way.”

The county show’s 2018 Lady Ambassador, Marged Simons is also among the team of 27.

Supporters, family and friends were out in force early this morning to wave them off. Also attending were Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society’s Chief Executive Jan Pearce and Show President Brian Harries and his wife Margaret.

Teas and coffees were provided for all visitors and supporters at the Pavilion by PAS Ltd.
