HAVERFORDWEST is set to become a Dementia-friendly town, with plans to encourage inclusivity launching today (Monday, May 14).

The Be Kind Campaign will offer carers and relatives support, and make the town a kinder place for those living with dementia-related conditions.

To coincide with the Alzheimer’s Society National Dementia Action Week, the Be Kind Campaign has launched in Haverfordwest.

The campaign has a programme of events between May 14 and 27 to show what help and support is out there.

It is backed by the Alzheimer’s Society and supported by Haverfordwest Town Council.

The Be Kind Campaign wants to:

• Run a Memory Cafe on the last Friday of every month in the Picton Centre offering free workshops for those living with dementia and their carers, free coffee and access to the advice and support they need. This starts on Friday May 25, 10am – 12.30pm.

• Give free Dementia Friends sessions to any organisations or business in Haverfordwest, who wants it. Pembrokeshire College is also offering regular Dementia Friends sessions, open to all.

In the last three months, over 100 people have already taken part in these workshops.

On May 25, the VC Gallery will run a free art workshop and Hafal-Crossroads will have carers available so people living with dementia get the most out of the workshop.

They or their carers can also get advice and support from the Alzheimer’s Society, Side-by-Side, Hafal-Crossroads, PAVS Community Connector and PACTO Bus Buddies.

The workshop is free but places are limited, so please book in advance on 07595 192935. However, the cafe is open to anyone who wants to find out more.

Afterwards, Pembrokeshire Coast National Park will be leading an hour long walk suitable for able bodied people with memory issues at 12.30pm from the Picton Centre.

All are welcome.

ateb is also offering technology advice on May 25, and will be in Castle Square with its digital bus.

For more information please call Tessa on 07595 192935, email dfhaverfordwest@gmail.com or visit the facebook page to see a programme of events.
