THE FINESSE of Fishguard's young female footballers were celebrated this month at an awards ceremony at the Fishguard Bay Hotel.

Over 90 guests attended the Fishguard Sports Girls AFC awards night, including players, coaches, parents and supporters.

As well as the awards the evening included food, entertainment and a raffle.

The awards celebrated the three teams; the Under 12s, Under 14s and Under 16s and young players were awarded for most improved, best leadership and player of the year.

Two special awards were also given in memory of the late John Evans and Luke Harding.

The John Evans awards was given to Alicia Taylor for her outstanding achievements during her junior football career.

"Well done Alicia," I'm so proud of you and what you have achieved over the past five years," said coach Matthew (Minty) Lamb.

The Luke Harding award was presented by Peter Harding and Alex Harding to Ceri Watts for her loyalty and determination.

"Well done Ceri. I am so proud of you for your loyalty to the club, being so reliable and the fact you never give in," said Matthew.

In his speech Mathew praised the dedication of the girls and fantastic support of their parents. He paid tribute to his late father John Lamb, who died three months ago, and thanked Ffion Price and Gareth Thomas for their support throughout the season.

There are currently 45 girls training with Fishguard's three teams every week. The club is starting an under 10's next season and in the future will be looking to start a senior ladies team. For more information see Fishguard Sports Girls FC Facebook page.
