TWENTY TWO gardens in the city of St Davids will be opening their gates to the public on the weekend of June 30 and July 1 to help raise funds for Prostate Cymru.

"The gardens here are all very varied in size, design and interest," said organiser, Julia Horton-Mansfield.

"If you have ever wondered what is on the other side of a wall or hedge, or tucked behind someone else's house, you will now get the opportunity to find out."

In some of the gardens owners will be offering cream teas, plant sales, coffees, prosecco and hosting poetry, painting and yoga classes to illustrate how our outside spaces are used in so many different ways.

At Penrhiw, part of the Retreats Group there will be guided walks around the gardens and woodland.

In another garden, local illustrator and writer Jackie Morris will be reading from her book, the multi-award winning The Lost Words.

There will be a market at Cross Square with stalls including plants, flowers, charcoal and bee products.

Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru will also be present to promote their awareness programme along with Rugby legend Eddie Butler who will be signing and selling his new book in aid of Prostate Cymru.

Wildlife presenter, Iolo Williams, is supporting the event by agreeing to be its patron.

Day tickets cost £3 for children (age eight -17) and £6 for adults. A weekend ticket costs £10 for adults and £4.50 for children.

The gardens are open from 10.30am to 5pm on Saturday and 11.30am and 4pm on Sunday.

Tickets are available from the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Visitor Centre at Oriel y Parc and from the Cross Square Market at the Prostate Cancer stand. A map of all the gardens will be given out with tickets. There will also be a map and details of each garden available on the event website.

For more information see the St Davids' City Open Gardens Facebook page.

Two satellite events will also be held over the weekend; Sarah Wint, who has the beautiful and developing Daisybus Gardens of Wellbeing at Llandeloy will be giving an informal talk about gardening for health and wellbeing on Saturday afternoon and later in the evening there will be an entertaining talk given by Terry Walton and Lynne Allbutt.

There will be tickets available separately for these events.
