Milford Haven

THE funeral took place at Hamilton Court Chapel of Rest, Milford Haven on Friday June 8 of Mrs Patricia Elizabeth Richards of Bunkers Hill, Steynton, Milford Haven, who died at home on May 27 aged 85 years.

Mrs Richards was the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Bertie Jefferies of Neyland and leaves a family of four sons, one daughter, twenty-one grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

She is also survived by her sister Miss Marion Jefferies of Neyland.

After completing her education at the former Pembroke Dock County School, Mrs Richards dedicated much of her life to her family, celebrating her diamond wedding with her late husband in 2012.

The mourners at the service at Honeyborough Cemetery, Neyland were Mrs C I Richards (daughter-in-law); Mr C I Richards was unable to attend; Mr and Mrs J M Richards (son and daughter-in-law); Mr C A Richards and Miss J Keast (son and partner); Mr A H Richards (son); Mrs S E Underwood (daughter) was unable to attend; Miss M M Jefferies (sister); Mrs A Huntingdon (sister-in-law); grandchildren Scott, Luke, Nia, Lisa, Emma, Megan, Sam, Georgia and India Richards, Miss Hannah Underwood; Andy Hudson, Donald McShannon and Heidi Holmes (partners); great grandchildren Amelia, Isla and Noah; Mr James Huntingdon (nephew); Mr and Mrs S Slade; Mrs T Kinnersley.

The bearers were Mark, Christopher, Andrew and Sam Richards.

There were family flowers only with donations to the Paul Sartori Foundation, Winch Lane, Haverfordwest, SA61 1RP.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons Ltd of Milford Haven.

Mr J A Reeve

Haverfordwest

THE death occurred on June 2 of Mr John Alfred Reeve of the Gables, Tangiers, Haverfordwest.

Mr Reeve had not been in the best of health for a while, yet his untimely passing came as a great shock to his family and friends.

Aged 86, Mr Reeve was born in Haverfordwest and educated in Haverfordwest Grammar school.

As a young man he joined the Forestry Commission and trained as a forester. Hard work and dedication brought its reward and John held responsible positions with the Commission in North and Mid Wales.

Married in 1959 John was, a few years later, appointed as the woodland/forestry expert to the Pembrokeshire National Park Authority.

This position gave him the opportunity to work on projects in his beloved Pembrokeshire that would prove a lasting legacy.

Very much a countryman John was a keen and active field sports enthusiast; and an excellent marksman, who also held a lifelong interest in angling.

His knowledge of wildlife was quite remarkable and when not pursuing these outdoor interests John spent many hours in his immaculately kept garden.

John is survived by his wife, Mrs Anne Reeve.

The cremation took place on June 18 at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth and was attended by a large number of family, friends and former colleagues.

The officiating minister was the Rev Marianne Osborne.

A reading and the eulogy was undertaken by Richard Howells.

There were family flowers only, but donations may be payable to the Woodland Trust Wales and sent to Miss E. Knight, 167 Haven Road, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, SA61 1DL.

Mr D W Shanklin

Pembroke

MR Desmond Walter Shanklin, known as Des of Orange Gardens, Pembroke passed away on May 22 at Ashdale Care Home, Pembroke.

He was 86.

Des started work at 14 years of age on Jack Skone`s Farm delivering milk on a pony and trap.

Later on working at South Pembs Council until his retirement.

His main interests were football, being a life-long supporter of Pembroke Borough. And he was taken by his father to support the `Boro` from a young age.

Des joined the committee at 14 years old and went into management, from there to FAW, where he was rose to President in 2000.

Des went all around the world representing Wales, met and made many friends with people from the top of football and to the groundsmen and volunteer stewards and treated them all the same with respect and genuine friendship.

Des helped raise funds for local football clubs and sporting organisations with the help of the FAW and the Welsh Football team through signed shirts, balls and football memorabilia.

Des’ love of football never changed and in his last few years enjoyed local football especially Haverfordwest County of which he was President.

The family were very grateful for all the support that the Parkinson`s Society and Paul Sartori Foundation gave Des.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners were Mrs Nicky Shanklin (wife); Mrs Debbie Brace (niece), Nigel (husband) and children Liam, Lauren and Lucy; Sian James (step daughter) husband David and children Bobby, Tilly and Frances; stepson Tim Pope, wife –Emma and children Elvie, Aurora and Margot; nieces Sarah, Michelle, Rebecca and families, plus many family, friends and neighbours.

The funeral service was held at Monkton Priory Church on Friday June 1 followed by interment at St. Michaels Cemetery, Pembroke.

It was officiated by Rev. Colin Bowen, Rev. Roger Hart and Rev. Peter Jones

The bearers were members of the past Boro team, friends and members of the FAW and Welsh team.

Mr M C Orr

Haverfordwest

MR Malcolm Charles Orr of Prendergast, Haverfordwest passed away at Torestin Care Home, Tier’s Cross on May 19.

He was 79.

Malcolm joined the RAF at the age of 19 and served for a total of 22 years, reaching before the end of his career the rank of Flight Sergeant.

He served in a wide variety of places both overseas and in Britain before his final posting to Brawdy.

Upon leaving the RAF, and with his oldest child being at a critical point in his education, he secured a job in a builders’ merchants in Pembrokeshire.

For the majority of his working life thereafter he would be associated with this line of work, although for a brief period he worked at a petrol station in Haverfordwest before returning to the Jewsons fold.

The time he spent working there gave him both job satisfaction and the chance to meet a huge range of people, something that he greatly enjoyed.

It was some years after the official retirement age when he finally left paid employment and turned to more leisurely pursuits.

Malcolm had several hobbies.

He had always enjoyed sport of all kinds, playing cricket, squash and badminton in his younger years.

In later years active participation turned to watching sport on television, football and Formula 1 being amongst his favourites.

Having always been good with figures, it was no surprise that the Sudoku craze became part of his life and he would happily spend hours puzzling his way through the challenges.

When he wasn’t engaged in these activities he could be found walking around the highways and byways of Haverfordwest, often walking miles in his exploration of the town.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Catherine (wife); Christopher and Lyn (son and daughter-in-law); Andrew and Vicki (son and daughter-in-law); Claire Orr (daughter); six grandchildren, Samuel Orr, Sara Brett, Laura Jones, Nathanael Orr, Lewis Orr, Kieran Orr, and seven great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was held at Emmanuel Christian Centre, Haverfordwest, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth on Tuesday June 5.

It was officiated by Rev. Michael Bave.

The bearers were Christopher Orr (son); Andrew Orr (son); Claire Orr (daughter) and Lynn Orr (daughter-in-law).
